Wait Until Dark

So... 25 of us attended the show on Friday night. What did you guys think? For those of you who weren't able to make it, there are additional tickets available this week if you can organize yourselves and go in a group or two on a given night... See Alb if you're interested.

Directing Class Update

Just heard from Patrick --
The directing class took a small hiatus as CLC neared opening night for Wait Until Dark. They will be regrouping soon and preparing for their short scenes and one-acts. It sounds like they have decided to host a group audition of sorts so that they can cast for their various shows all at one time. That's all the info I have for now, but I will keep you posted. I'd expect that to pick up steam sometime in the next week. The signup is still (perpetually...) posted in my room...

Free tickets to local theatre

CLC Theatre has invited us to see their current production, Wait Until Dark
Here's the note I received from Patrick:

Audra:
I cordially invite you, your friends, and your students to attend Wait Until Dark. We open the show on Thursday Feb. 23 and run nightly (except Sunday) through Thursday March 2. All shows are at 7:30 pm in the Chalberg Theatre. You would, of course, come as my guests. Is there an evening that works best for you? I'd love to have your students here as a way of introducing them to CLC theatre. Let me know and I'll have tickets waiting for you.
Patrick

It might be fun to go as a group... plus I think he'd like us to request tickets in a block. Anybody interested? I'll start a signup list in my room.

and now since Weezer's come up with Holiday and now some old
Husker Du is up (She Floated Away) I'd really better head home. Goodnight!

Birds auditions and upcoming activities

Thanks to everybody who came out for auditions for our spring show.
Tech crews will be posted as soon as the final cast list is determined.

Performers looking for other opportunities: there are still some spots available to work with the CLC student directors. Their class meets on Wednesdays. You'd start out with small scenes and gradually work up to a cut full-length or one-act play. The commitment runs from now until May. Scroll down on this page for more details.

State One-Acts

The state one-act festival was great for a few reasons.
  • First, I got to see some really interesting and solidly produced shows.
  • Second, I took my son Elijah with. He was willing to wake up at 4:30 am to go see theatre, which does my heart well. He loved every show with the exception of Beowulf (now who considers doing an epic in the span of 35 minutes with only two narrators and some puppets?).
  • Third, the shows were extremely diverse. It was like a theatre buffet without sneeze guards.
  • Forth, I took copious notes and filed them away for rainy days down the road.
  • and Fifth, listening to the judge's critiques was more than interesting. They were for the most part kid-glovey, but occasionally let a critical zinger fly. My curiosity was really piqued once I figured out that one of the directors who brought a cast also served as the oral critique judge. How the MSHSL let that one fly is beyond me... Can anybody say "impartial?" But since there are technically no winners or losers (the shows aren't ranked) I guess that's the way it goes.

I thought about posting some of the judge's comments and my own specific reactions/thoughts to some of the shows, but the spring show is upon us and can't be stopped!

Ironically, the Smiths "Work is a 4-Letter Word" just popped up on my shuffle. I'd better head home.
